Fresh Ribery bid

MADRID: Real Madrid are preparing an audacious 60 million euro last minute bid to lure Franck Ribery away from Bayern Munich before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday, Spanish sports daily Marca reported on Saturday. Real, who on Friday sold Dutch striker Arjen Robben to Bayern, are ready to make “a last attempt” to buy the highly coveted 26-year-old, the paper states. Real have been chasing 26-year-old Ribery for weeks but up to now have met with stiff resistance from Bayern who insist Ribery is staying put in Munich. — AFP

Hughes seeks advice

SYDNEY: Dumped Australian opening batsman Phillip Hughes is seeking a meeting with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar as he attempts to resurrect his Test career, reports said on Saturday. The 20-year-old went into the recent Ashes series against England as a rising star of the team, only to be dropped after the opening two Tests. Hughes could have travelled home this week, but instead he stopped off in India to work on his game with his coach Neil D’Costa and catch up with Tendulkar. — AFP
