LACM enter quarters

LALITPUR: Little Angels’ College of Management (LACM) ‘A’ beat National College 3-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the third LACM Inter-college Football Tournament on Monday. Krishna Raj Rai and Suresh BK scored for LACM, while their third goal came courtesy of an own goal from Depak Paudel. Mandeep Singh Basnet and Sanjay Rana Magar scored for National, who also advanced to the last eight as runners up. In another match, Nepal Commerce College drew 2-2 with Campion College to make it to the quarters. Kabichand Rai of Campion and Suresh BK of LACM won the Attsh man of the match awards. — THT Online


Unique sent off

BUENOS AIRES: Gimnasia-Jujuy goalkeeper Gaston Pezzutti was sent off after an altercation with a ball boy during his team’s 1-0 defeat at River Plate in the Argentina championship. The ball boy dallied as he returned the ball for a goal kick in the 70th minute. After collecting the ball, a furious Pezzutti throw it back at the youth and was sent off. — Agencies

Moles joins Kolkata

KOLKATA: Andy Moles, the New Zealand coach, has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders as an ‘observer’ and will be with the team till May 5, according to the Kolkata-based Telegraph. “I’m with this franchise at the behest of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and intend studying how it works,” he told the paper. “I’ll also be having a fairly close look at the IPL. “The idea is to see if there’s something to learn and then implement in the T20 game back home.” — Agencies


Klinsmann sacked

Munich: Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked as coach of Bayern Munich following a series of poor results, the defending Bundesliga champions announced today. The 44-year-old only took charge in July 2008, but recent poor results have seen Bayern crash out of the Champions League after a 4-0 hammering at Barcelona while Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Schalke left them third in the German league. Former Bayern trainer Jupp Heynckes will take over as head coach. — AFP
