Chhetri wins gold
KATHMANDU: Raju Chhetri of Nepal won bantam weight gold medal at the fourth Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship organised by South Korean Taekwondo Association in Sowon on Tuesday. Chhetri defeated a Nigerian opponent in the final. Likewise, Bhojendra Bahadur Chhetri and Buddha Thapa also claimed silver medals. Bhojendra won silver in the feather weight and Buddha earned silver in the middle weight category. Another Nepali player Keshar Bahadur Lama won bronze medal in the light weight category. In all, 1021 players from 37 countries took part in the event. — HNS
White Water Challenge
KATHMANDU: Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA) is organising the eighth Mountain Dew Himalayan White Water Challenge in Trishuli on November 28-30. The event features separate competition in rafting and kayaking, said the NARA general secretary Ganga Prasad Nepal on Tuesday. The organisers have expected about 700 participants including 250 foreigners. Previously, the event used to be held in Bhote Koshi. — HNS
Piero to be left out for friendlies
ROME: Alessandro Del Piero will not be called up for Italy’s upcoming friendlies with Greece and Brazil because coach Marcello Lippi wants to look at new players. “Del Piero is a player I know everything about and I want to renew this team. I want to see new players,” Lippi said. With 27 international goals, Del Piero is Italy’s active scoring leader, eight shy of Luigi Riva’s record of 35 goals. After four games, Italy lead their World Cup qualifying group with 10 points, three ahead of Ireland. — AP
