ITF players selected

KATHMANDU: Bharatpur selected 19 players for the fifth National Taekwondo (ITF) Tournament. Among the male players picked up for the September 12-14 tournament were Rajesh Basnet, Suraj Poudel, Rupak Bhujel, Rabi Shrestha, Sadip Bhandari, Bikash KC, Robin Thapa, Sunil Basnet, Sujan Kunwar and Rajesh Rai. Ayusha Thapa, Sushma KC, Junu Rai, Kabita Shrestha, Asmita Thapa, Sarishma Malla Thakuri, Nisha Wagle, Priti Wagle and Anushka Bhattarai were selected in the women’s section. — HNS

Golden Peak win

KATHMANDU: Golden Peak, Himalayan Boarding School, Gyan Kunja and VS Niketan won the senior boys’ section matches at the third Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Golden Peak eased past Anmol Jyoti 35-13, Himalayan edged Tri Jyoti 18-15, Gyan Kunja saw off Newton Children Academy 24-19 and VS Niketan defeated Birendra Sainik Awashiya Mahavidhyalaya 38-30. Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan, TIA, Mahendra Bhawan and Unique School won in senior girls’ section. — HNS

NBM gets new body

KATHMANDU: The general assembly of Nepal Byayayam Mandir elected new executive committee under the presidentship of Narayan Pradhan. Mahendra Jung Thapa and Ajay Kumar Bajracharya are the vice presidents, while Surya Prasad Joshi is the general secretary. Nani Kaji Dangol and Tirtha Maharjan are the secretary and treasurer respectively. The members are Ratnalal Maharjan, Dinesh Shrestha, Ishwor Khadgi, Naresh Pandey, Sunil Kapali and Ren Bahadur Basukala. — HNS

Bahundada Cup

LAMJUNG : Hosts Young Star Club ‘B’ beat Purnima Youth Club ‘A’ 3-2 and entered the semi-finals of the Bahundada Cup Football Tournament on Sunday. In the other match, Adarsha Youth Club beat Marsyangdi Youth Club. In women’s section, Marsyangdi entered the final with a 2-0 win over Kanya Devi Youth Club. — HNS

NSJF-LG PoY

KATHMANDU: Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) and Avenues Television joined hands to telecast the NSJF-LG Player of the Year Awards Live. As per the agreement signed on Sunday by NSJF President Niranjan Rajbanshi and Avenues TV News Coordinator Kedar Koirala, Avenues TV will telecast the award function for the next three years. The NSJF is giving away the awards in seven categories - Male, Female, Youth, Coach, Special, Popular and Lifetime Achievement. The programme is slated for September 10 at the Nepal Academy Hall. — HNS

Zenith Cup

KATHMANDU: Mount Glory and Rara Hill started with wins on the opening day of the first New Zenith Cup Basketball on Sunday. Mt Glory overwhelmed Arniko 66-62 and Rara Hill edged past hosts New Zenith 66-23 in the senior boys’ section matches. In another senior boys’ match, Ideal Model overcame Bernhardt 38-30. Likewise, Swarnim beat New Zenith 32-27 and Intensive crushed Bright Horizon 34-8 in the junior boys’ section matches. In all, 14 teams in senior and 16 in junior boys’ section are taking part in the tournament. — HNS

Rehdon triumph

KATHMANDU: Hosts Rehdon College won both their opening day matches here at the Inter-college Boys Volleyball Tournament. Rehdon beat Rainbow College 25-21, 25-17 before overcoming Youth Vision 25-22, 25-17 in the next game. In other matches, Crimson beat Lincoln 26-24, 21-25, 25-13; Intensive saw off Edmark 25-17, 25-17; and British Gorkha dispatched Whitefield 25-22, 26-28, 25-19. — HNS
