AICRI beat CAN-XI

KATHMANDU: All India Cricket Research Institute Team (AICRI) of Kolkata cruised to a 68-run win over CAN-XI in a friendly Twenty20 cricket match on Monday. Batting first, AICRI scored 152-2 before dismissing the Nepali side for 84 in 18.3 overs. Sanip Das scored 77 and Samik Chanda 41 for the visitors. Nupur Pandey scored 24 runs for CAN-XI. The AICRI also defeated CAN-XI (Baluwatar) by 32 runs in the second match. Sandip Rai (52) and Arindam Chaki (51) scored half centuries as AICRI scored 141-4. Baluwatar managed only 109-6 with Prafulla Baidhya making run-a-ball 52. — HNS

VS Sports Festival

KATHMANDU: VS Niketan Higher Secondary School is organising the VS Niketan Sports Festival Year 2065. The school will organise competitions in 10 different sports in the 10-month long programme. The sports included are Chess, Table Tennis, Karate, Wushu, Walkathon, Taekwondo, Basketball, Cricket, Badminton and Volleyball. To begin with, the school is organising Chess Tournament from Friday, Principal Baburam Pokhrel at a press meet. The organisers have expected the participation of around 300 students in each sport. “We have also planned to felicitate the top national and international players from the 10 disciplines at the closing ceremony,” he said. — HNS

Mountain Bike C’ship

KATHMANDU: Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), in association with Nepal Cycling Association, is organising the fifth Thuraya-TAAN Mountain Bike Championship on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Around 150 bikers including 40 foreigners are expected to take part in four categories - Elite Men and Women, Junior and Masters, said the organisers. The top three winners in the Elite Men section will receive Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000, while the top three winners in other categories will get Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The 19-km race will start from Water Garden, Balaju and end at Kakani. After the race, all the participants and the officials will take part in a tree-plantation programme. — HNS

New golf body

KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council have reformed Nepal Golf Association. President of Royal Nepal Golf Course, Madhukar Yakthumba is the new President of the 15-member committee, said the NGA in a release. National team skipper Tashi Ghale is the General Secretary of the committee, which has three vice president, treasurer and nine members. — HNS
