Nepal triumph

Kathmandu: Nepal defeated Guernsey by 75 runs in a warm up match in Guernsey Island today ahead of their ICC World Cricket League Division-V.

Nepal scored 209-9 in their 50 overs before dismissing the hosts for 134 in 45 overs. Sharad Vesawkar scored 72 and Mehboob Alam 45 for Nepal. Guernsey captain Stuard Le Prevost made 41 and Jeremy Frith 24 for the hosts. Raj Kumar Pradhan took 4-36 while Alam and Paras Khadka claimed two wickets each for Nepal.

Nepal are pitted against Mozambique, the United States, Germany, Norway and Vanuata in Group A of the ICC World Cricket League Division-V to be held in Jersey. Group B comprises of Afghanistan, Japan, hosts Jersey, Singapore, Bahamas and Botswana. Top two teams will qualify for the WCL Division-IV. Nepal will open their campaign against Germany on Friday. — HNS

Arjun in final

KATHMANDU: Arjun Karki of Nepal and Prashant Chikana of India advanced to the above-20kg men’s singles kata final in the second JSKA International Karate Championship here on Thursday. Arjun beat Samir Singh of India and Prashant overcame Suman Karki of Nepal to secure their berth in the final. Zinshu Sanyal of India and Hari Shrestha also cruised to the below 20kg men’s singles kata final. Players from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are participating in the event organised by Nepal Shotokan Karate (JSKA). — HNS
