17 events in SAG

KATHMANDU: The 38th Executive Committee meeting of the South Asian Games (SAG) decided to include 17 events in the 11th SAG to be held in Bangladesh in November-December 2008, the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) here said on Saturday. Out of the 20 events held in the 10th edition in Sri Lanka in 2006, Judo, Rowing, Cycling, Badminton and Volleyball were removed, while Handball and Hockey were included. The organising country will add two events within three months, the NOC said. The meeting, which was attended NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Shrestha and general secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha, also selected the national bird of Bangladesh Duel as the mascot of the games. The 15 events finalised are Swimming, Athletics, Hockey, Kabaddi, Squash, Football, Boxing, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Shooting, Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Handball and Archery. — HNS

BHAKTAPUR: Learning Realm International beat Deep Jyoti by 14 runs in the COAS Cup Inter-school Cricket on Saturday. Batting first, LRI were all out for 95 runs in the 30th over before restricting Deep Jyoti for 81 in the 26.1 overs. — HNS
