NZSCC team Iran-bound

KATHMANDU: A 10-member Nepal Zurkhaneh Sports Coordination Committee (NZSCC) team is leaving for Kish Island, Iran on Friday to take part in the Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Festival. The team for the February 16-20 festival includes seven players — Rabi Ghimire, Dhruba Dhakal, Anuj Shrestha, Milan Rana, Kamal Shrestha, Birendra Baidhya and Ujjwol Shivakoti. Officials include NZSCC president Karna Bahadur Shahi, vice-president Purna Lama and member Suprina Poudel. Ideal English School bade farewell to the team here on Thursday. — HNS

NJA nominates vice-presidents

KATHMANDU: Nepal Judo Association (NJA) on Thursday nominated five vice-presidents in their central executive committee. A meeting chaired by NJA president Deepak Harsha Bajracharya nominated Siddhi Bahadur Shakya, Ambika Bahadur Chhetri, Usha Basnet, Bishnu Prasad Kakchhyapati and Piyush Shrestha in the NJA central executive committee. — HNS

Caspion overwhelm AVM

KATHMANDU: Caspian Valley College beat Adarsha Vidhya Mandir (AVM) 43-17 in the CPS Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Thursday. In other matches, Cribbean sneaked past United Academy 35-34 and Rato Bangala overcame 64-34 over Campion Academy. — HNS

Marshyangdi enter quarter-finals

KATHMANDU: Marshyangdi overcame Galaxy Public 10-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the the first Arunodaya Junior Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Hosts Arunodaya, Golden Peak, Clinton, Nirmal School, Sri Diwa, Swarnim and Grammar Public School have already made it to the last eight. — HNS

Trijyoti advance to last eight

KATHMANDU: Trijyoti School trounced Wilson Academy 12-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the second Daffodil Cup Inter-school Junior Football here on Thursday. Sushil Karki scored five, Manish Singh two and Susan Pokharel, Tilak Shahi, Alice Shrestha, Manish Poudel and Suman Thapa added one goal each for Trijyoti. In other matches, New Summit and Josephs School also advanced despite Josephs losing 4-6 to New Summit today. In the boys’ basketball, Mt Glory, Gyan Niketan, VS Niketan and Learning Realm International won their respective matches. — HNS
