SNB Memorial Cricket

LALITPUR: Adarsha Vidhya Mandir (AVM) is organising the fourth SNV Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament here from Thursday. In all, 16 teams will take part in the tournament, said the organisers here today. The participating teams are Budhanilkantha, Little Angels’ School, Kathmandu Xavier, GEMS, Brihaspati, Shuvatara, Deep Jyoti, Galaxy, Rajan Memorial, Gyanodaya, GCA, Hillary, AVM, Little Flowers, LRI and St Xavier’s. The teams have been divided into two groups with the winners of each of the group to play in the final on December 14. — HNS

School volleyball

KATHMANDU: Lubhoo Secondary School and CGA won their respective matches here at the fourth Valleywide Namuna Running Shield Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Lubhoo defeated Ananta School 25-12, 25-14 and CGA beat Kopila School 25-18, 25-21. Likewise, Mt Olive overcame High View 26-24, 25-20, Maha Laxmi outdid hosts Namuna 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, Kopila edged past Adarsa Soul 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 while hosts Namuna lost second league match 25-18, 13-25, 16-25. — HNS

Hodgson quits

HELSINKI: Roy Hodgson is stepping down as Finland coach after leading the team to the brink of qualifying for the European Championship. Hodgson said on Friday he will take a job with Inter Milan in the Serie A, but did not specify what his position will be. Hodgson coached the Italian side between 1995-97. The Finnish Football Association said it had wanted to keep the Englishman as coach for the qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup, and that Hodgson will assist them in finding a successor. The Englishman joined Finland in January 2006. — AP
