Phelps wins two titles
CHARLOTTE: US swim star Michael Phelps made a triumphant return on Friday in his first finals since the Beijing Olympics, winning the 200-metre freestyle and 100m butterfly at the Charlotte UltraSwim. Phelps won the 200m freestyle in 1min 46.02secs. Phelps returned to the pool 40 minutes later and rallied from third at the turn to win the 100 fly in 51.72 seconds. Phelps won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. — AFP
Gaudio gets wild card
PARIS: Five years after winning the French Open, Gaston Gaudio received a wild card for the 2009 championship on Friday. Gaudio, now ranked 395, won the last of his eight ATP singles titles in 2005, the highlight of which was his 2004 win at Roland Garros over Guillermo Coria in an all-Argentine, five-set final. The championship starts on May 24. — AP
