Inter-school handball

KATHMANDU: Sadabahar Sporting Society is organising the Central Region Inter-school Boys’ Handball Tournament here at the Kapan Handball Ground on December 8-10. The finalists of the tournament will directly qualify for the School-level National Handball Tournament slated for December 13-15 at the same venue, the organisers said at a press meet here on Tuesday. The winner and runner up will get Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively along with trophies. — HNS

BSAM, BES in quarters

MADHYAPUR: Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (BSAM) and Bhaktapur English School (BES) advanced to the semi-finals of the first Inter-School Invitational Football Tournament here on Tuesday. BSAM defeated Vinayak Sikchha Niketan School 4-2 in tie-breaker after a goalless draw. BSAM goalkeeper Bidur Kunwar was named the man of the match. In the other match, BES outplayed Gyanodaya Bal Batika 5-0. Man of the match Raju Sinkeman struck a hat-trick and Saroj Sipai netted two goals for the winners. In Wednesday’s quarter-finals, Antique will play Deepjyoti and Adarsha will take on Kathmandu University School. — HNS

Khatri bereaved

LALITPUR: FIFA referee Laba Khatri is bereaved of his mother Sita Khatri who passed away here on Saturday night. Sita, 62, was suffering from paralysis. Resident of Thasikhel, Lalitpur, she is survived by three sons and two daughters. Lava played for Three Star Club and Jawalakhel Youth Club before pursuing the referee career. — HNS
