Gurung wins championship

KATHMANDU: Sanu Gurung of Kantipur Physical Fitness won the 11th Dharma Shree National Open Bodybuilding Championship, organised by Nepal Byayam Mandir, on Wednesday. Gurung, who qualified for the final round as a winner of above-75kg event, was adjudged the winner ahead of five other contestants. Sachit Pradhan, the winner of 60kg section, finished runner up. Other finalists were Ram Bahadur Dahal (55kg winner), Shyam Shrestha (65kg winner), Biru Maharjan (70kg winner) and Milan Sijapati (75kg winner). — HNS

Thapa advances to final

LALITPUR: Hira Bahadur Thapa advanced to the men’s open final with a convincing 9-5, 9-4, 9-5 win over Sudip Bahadur Singh at the fourth National Open Squash Tournament on Wednesday. Gam Prasad Gurung entered the men’s open semi-finals defeating Anil Singh 5-9, 10-8, 9-4, 9-6. Likewise, Robin Gurung overcame Basudev Lama 9-0, 9-2, 6-9, 9-5 for the Novice section final.

In the Veterans’ league, Mahendra Singh beat Shyam Bahadur Thapa 8-10, 9-6, 9-5, 9-4. Surendra Silwal, Anil Bajracharya, Manoj Bahadur Shrestha, Rajesh Mani Ghimire, Lal Bahadur Gurung, Amar Rana, Kishor Maharjan and Gyanu Chaudhary qualified for the Plate Championship quarter-finals. — HNS

Shangri-La Corporate Cricket

KATHMANDU: Shangri-La Cricket Academy is organising the Twenty20 Corporate Cricket Tournament from Sunday. Winner of each of the three groups will qualify for the super league. Top two among the three teams will play for the championship. EVU International, Sagarmatha Health Foundation, Hotel Everest were drawn in Group ‘A’, followed by Nepal Credit and Commerce Bank, Nepal Sports Journalists Forum and Nepal SBI Bank in Group ‘B’. Chaudhary Group, KIST Merchant Bank and Bittiya Sanstha and Casino Everest are in Group ‘C’. — HNS
