South Africa win
BULAWAYO: A lower-order fightback from Gary Brent (59) and Elton Chigumbura (59) wasn’t enough to prevent South Africa from coasting to a five-wicket victory in the first one-dayer here on Wednesday. Zimbabwe recovered from a disastrous 72-7 to post 206 but the target was hardly challenging for the South Africans as Gulam Bodi (51), Graeme Smith (50) and AB de Villiers (63) helped themselves to half-centuries, polishing off the target with nearly three overs to spare. — Agencies

Sidebottom ruled out
LONDON: England bowler Ryan Sidebottom will miss the next two one-day internationals against India with a side strain, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Wednesday. The left-arm swing bowler also missed the first game of the seven-match series on Tuesday. Sidebottom was injured in the third and final Test against India that finished on August 13. The ECB will decide later whether to retain him in the squad or call up a replacement. — AP
