Kohlschreiber wins
MUNICH: Philipp Kohlschreiber won his first title on Sunday beating doubles partner Mikhail Youzhny 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the BMW Open. The 23-year-old German denied the third-seed Russian his fourth title, needing four match points to close out the match. He became the first German winner of the clay-court event since Michael Stich in 1994. Kohlschreiber will break into the top 40 for the first time Monday when the new rankings are released. He lost to Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters, his best performance ever at a Masters event. β AP
Sri Lanka omit stars
Colombo: Sri Lanka will be without some of their star players for the three-match one-day series with Pakistan in Abu Dhabi later this month, a senior official said here on Sunday. The 2007 World Cup runners-up which will play matches with Pakistan from May 18-22 will be without Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Sangakkara. βThe three boys will be going to England to play county cricket and we have told the Abu Dhabi organisers that we will be sending the best available team,β K Mathivanan, the secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, said. β AFP
