Judo selection

KATHMANDU: Three players from Kathmandu and two from Lalitpur made it to the final selection round for the national Judo team on Wendesday. Trishna Gurung (60kg), Mohan Sunuwar (66kg) and Kausila Rai qualified from Kathmandu. Durga Puri (58kg) and Jit Bahadur Tamang (60kg) were selected from Lalitpur. The final selection will be held on Friday. The objective of the selection is to pick four players for the Asian Judo Championship slated for May 16-17 in Kuwait, said the National Sports Council in a statement. — HNS

Italy top rankings

ZURICH: Italy returned to the top of FIFA’s world rankings on Wednesday, relegating Argentina to second place. Italy have 1,604 points, followed by Argentina with 1,594 and Brazil are third with 1,520. Italy’s 2-0 win over Scotland in a 2008 European Championship qualifier on March 28 helped them return to the top, ending the one-month stay by Argentina. France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, England, Spain and the Czech Republic complete the top 10. — AP
