Vaughan hospitalised
LONDON: Everton striker James Vaughan was taken to the hospital on Monday after severing an artery in his left leg during the Premier League match against Bolton. Vaughan was injured in the second half in a challenge with Bolton’s Abdoulaye Meite and carried off the field. No further details on Vaughan’s condition were immediately available. In the first half, Vaughan equalized for Everton after Kevin Davies had earlier scored for Bolton on a left-footed volley. The game ended 1-1. — AP
Celta coach fired
VIGO: Celta Vigo fired coach Fernando Vazquez on Monday, a day after a 4-2 loss to Recreativo Huelva in the Spanish league. Celta was third from last with 27 points with nine games left to play. Celta has the worst home record in the league with only one win in 14 games, and trails Levante and Athletic Bilbao by two points in the race to remain in Spain’s top flight division. LONDON: Doctors attending to ailing Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona, 46, fear that he could be killed like George Best, who died of multiple organ failure in 2005 at the age of 59. The Argentina World Cup winner is being treated for acute hepatitis brought on by alcoholism, reported The Sun. A source at the private clinic in Buenos Aires said: “The fear is Diego will not conquer his addiction.
