LALITPUR: Prakash Rai and Naresh Tamrakar beat Shiva Rai and Mani Thapa 21-14, 21-15 to win the Men’s Doubles title at the fourth Ramailo Badminton Tournament organised by Nakhipot Badminton Circle. Nirmala Thapa and Kamala Limbu came back from a set down to beat Shashi Gurung and Lila Limbu 20-22, 21-11, 21-16 to win the Ladies Doubles championship. Dambar Rai and Nirmala Thapa claimed the Mixed Doubles title with a 15-4, 11-15, 15-6 win over Jit Rai and Indra Pun. Likewise, Naresh Tamrakar and Ram Krishna defeated Shiva Rai and Jagat Ram Rai 15-6, 14-17, 15-6 in the Veterans’ Doubles final. — HNS

SEB, Mt Senai in final

KATHMANDU: Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School and Mt Senai advanced to the final of the Inter-school Teachers’ Volleyball Tournament. SEB defeated Arun Jyoti 25-17, 25-22, 31-29 while Mt Senai beat Venus School 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 in the semi-finals. Venus beat Arun Jyoti 24-26, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17 in the third-place play-off. — HNS

Roddick beats Lu

MEMPHIS: American Andy Roddick posted a 6-4, 7-6 (9/7) win over Lu Yen-Hsun to set up a semi-final match with Andy Murray at the Regions Morgan Keegan (RMK) Championships. Venus Williams advanced to the final and will challenge for her first title since Wimbledon in 2005 after posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ioana Raluca Olaru of Russia in the Cellular South Cup. Williams will face top-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel, who registered a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over American Meilen Tu. — AFP
