Sports meet

KATHMANDU: National Republic Sports Organisation (NRSO) Nepal is organising the first National Republic Sports Meet from March 7-11 at the Dasharath Stadium. The meet includes competitions in karate, kick boxing, taekwondo, volleyball and athletics. About 1,700 players and officials are expected to take part in the event, said the organisers at a press meet today. The estimated budget for the event is Rs 4.5 million. NRSO president Dhruba Bikram Malla, vice president Sriman Thapa Magar, general secretary Shiva Subedi and spokesperson Rana Sangram Bista were present on the occasion. — HNS

Nakamura to quit

TOKYO: Celtic’s Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura hopes to return to Japan’s professional football league after this season ends in June, he was quoted as saying today. His new team would have to pay a transfer fee to Celtic if he wants to leave the British club before his contract expires in May 2008. Nakamura, who joined Celtic in 2005, scored six goals in 33 games last season and has earned another six so far this season. — AFP
