Morang, Bara in semis

Lalitpur: Dhankuta, Morang, Bara and Panchthar advanced to the semi-finals of the ANFA-Mayos Inter-school Girls’ Football Tournament here today. Dhankuta beat Sarlahi 3-2 in the first quarter-final of the day. Saraswoti Chemjong, Mamata Rai and Indira Chemjong scored for Dhankuta while Bina Gurung and Mahisa Chaudhary replied for Sarlahi. Morang overcame Udaypur 3-0 on goals from Muna Rai, Kabita Dhimal and Indira Rai. Bara blanked Banke 3-0 on two goals from Dipa Lama and one from Durga Adhikari. Panchthar beat Rautahat 2-1. Diya Gurung and Kumar Gurung scored for Panchthar while Sudha Thokar pulled back one. Morang will take on Dhankuta and Bara will face Panchthar in semi-finals. — HNS

Kwiks Cup postponed

KATHMANDU: The third Kwiks Cup Inter-college Knockout Football Tournament has been postponed for February 1. Jointly organised by Friendship Group of Naxal and Central Department of Rural Development at Tribhuvan University, the tournament was earlier scheduled to begin from January 27. — HNS

Chappell slapped

BHUBANESHWAR: A man was arrested on Monday for slapping India coach Greg Chappell as he left an airport with his cricket team, a police officer said. The incident occurred as more than two dozen demonstrators protested the team’s arrival because no players from Orissa state were included on Indian squad. Police overpowered the man and he was later charged with assaulting Chappell. The Indian team arrived on Monday in Bhubaneshwar ahead of Wednesday’s second limited-overs international against the West Indies. — AP
