Shrestha leaves for SL
KATHMANDU: Member secretary of National Sports Council and chef-de-mission of the 10th South Asian Games Jeevan Ram Shrestha left for Colombo, Sri Lanka on Friday. NSC treasurer Ajar Manandhar and chief of Sports Academy of the NSC Harihar Shrestha also joined Shrestha for the South Asian region’s mega event slated for August 18-28. Acting member secretary Laxman Shrestha and departmental chiefs of the NSC bade farewell to Shrestha and others. In all, 323 players, coaches and officials from Nepal are taking part in 18 events at the 10th SAG. — HNS
Monsoon Meet 2006
KATHMANDU: Shridiwa Internationa School is organising the Monsoon Meet 2006, an Inter-school Basketball Tournament, from Saturday. According to the organisers, a total of 36 teams from 24 schools are taking part in three categories — senior boys, junior boys and girls. The objective of the tournament is to bring schools together in friendship with the motto of ‘unity in rivalry’. Shridiwa School will play St Xavier’s in the inaugural match on Saturday. — HNS
Bagmati River Festival
KATHMANDU: Nepal River Conservation Association is organising the Bagmati River Festival 2006 from Saturday. According to the organisers, the week-long festival include four events — Corporate House Boat Race on Saturday, Public Water Festival on Sunday, Media Challenge on Tuesday, and Bagmati Echo Challenge from Thursday to Saturday. The organisers have appointed Ranjan Rajbhandari of Nepal Mountain Bike Tours, national cyclist Suresh Kumar Dulal and Ek Bahadur Nepal as the race coordinators of the Bagmati Echo Challenge. — HNS
Farewell to players
LALITPUR: All Nepal School Sports Association (ANSSA) organised a grand farewell ceremony for the 10th South Asian Games players at GEMS School today. State Minister for Information and Communication Dilendra Prasad Badu, ANSSA president Rajesh Khadka, member secretary of National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha, president of Nepal Olympic Committee Rukma Shumsher Rana, senior vice president of ANSSA Umesh Shrestha among others wished best lucks for the players. ANSSA also announced a surprise reward package for the medal winning players. — HNS
