Landis doping case

PARIS: The result of Tour de France winner Floyd Landis’ backup doping test will be announced on Saturday. Landis tested positive for an elevated ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone following the 17th stage of the Tour de France, where he staged a remarkable comeback in the Alps to make up for a poor performance the day before. If the “B” sample is positive, he could be stripped of his Tour victory and banned for two years. — AP

Bashar ruled out

DHAKA: Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing tour of Africa after suffering an injury to his left thumb. “Bashar sustained a fracture while fielding during the second one-dayer against Zimbabwe at Harare on Sunday,” Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive Mahmudur Rahman said. “He will not be able to play the remaining three matches against Zimbabwe and four matches against Kenya later,” he said. Wicket-keeper Khaled Mashud will take over captaincy during his absence. — AFP
