Baluwatar win

KATHMANDU: Baluwatar Cricket Club defeated Twenty20 Cricket Club of India by two wickets in a friendly match here at Bhaktapur Cricket ground. Put in to bat, the visitors were bowled out for a meagre 96 runs in 22.2 overs with opener Kamalpreet Singh putting on a lone battle scoring 40 runs. Radhe Shyam Mishra took three while Mayur Malakar claimed two wickets for Baluwatar. Balawatar, however, had difficult time chasing the total. They chased the total in the 19 overs but not before losing their eight wickets. Sarupreet Singh claimed three and Bharat Grover took two wickets for the visitors. — HNS

Thokar refutes charge

KATHMANDU: Chief coach Shatnababu Thokar and coach Nima Sherpa of the Nepal Sotokan Karate Association (NSKA) dismissed the charges by founder PembaTamang. Tamang on Wednesday had banned Thokar and Sherpa from participating in NSKA related activities accusing them of financial irregularities. At a press meet, Thokar produced evidences claiming his legitimacy and alleged Tamang of working against the norms of the association. He also said that NSKA will come up with a concrete decision to punish Tamang for spreading rumours. — HNS

Mid-Western win

KATHMANDU: Mid-Western Region claimed the team championship while Far-Western and Eastern Region finished second and third respectively in the Inter-regional School-level Athletics and Volleyball Tournament. Of the six events on Friday, Mid-Western won three (boys’ and girls’ 4x400m, and girls’ 200m) while Far-Western claimed two (boys’ 200m and girls’ 1500m) and Central Region won a gold medal in boys’ long jump. Central Region won the boys’ while Western region claimed the girls’ volleyball titles. — HNS

Ramailo badminton

KATHMANDU: The duo of Sanjay Shrestha and Kesh Gauchan, and Shiva Rai and Jagat Ram Rai advanced to the veteran’s doubles final at the third Ramailo Badminton Tournament on Friday. Nirmala Thapa and Shailendra Ghale, and Ranamati Limbu and Kirtiman Rai secured the mixed doubeld final berths. Santosh Tamang and Kshitiz Subba beat Kesh Gauchan and Basanta Nembang in the men’s doubles semi-finals and will meet Anil Shah and Pradesh KC. Durga Limbu and Mani Maya Limbu beat Lila Limbu and Bhim Kumari Rana in women’s doubles semis. — HNS

DDC Chairman Cup

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur, Ilam, Kavre, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi and Nuwakot entered the quarter-finals of the U-14 DDC Chairman Cup Football Tournament. Lalitpur beat Surkhet 5-4 in tie-breaker, Ilam beat Bara 2-1, Kavre beat Baglung 2-0, Rupendehi beat Dang 3-1, Nawalparasi beat Banke 1-0 and Nuwakot beat Kathmandu 1-0. — HNS
