Thokar, Sherpa ousted

KATHMANDU: A technical committee of the Nepal Sotokan Karate Association (NSKA) banned acting-chief coach Shanta Babu Thokar and coach Nima Sherpa from all the NSKA related activities. According to NSKA, the duo had led non-players in a championship held in Japan in 2005 for their personal financial gain. The statement also added that it would not spare anyone who intends to defame the association or the sport. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Jagat Ram Rai and Dambar Rai defeated Binod Shakya and Dinesh Shakya 15-2, 15-4 in the men’s doubles of the third Ramailo Badminton Tournament. Likewise, the pair of Uttam Rai and Surya Rai, Bishnu Chitrakar and Balaram Rai, Bharat Karki and Naresh Tamrakar, Jagat Ram Rai and Shiva Rai, Subhash Jobezu and Krishna Thebe, and DP Bharati and Ganga Subba won their veterans’ doubles matches. Nirmala Thapa and Pratima Thapa defeated Hira Thapa and Laxmi Gurung in the ladies doubles while Bhim Kumar Rana and Ram Kumari Rai beat Jagat Ram Rai and Pratima Thapa in the mixed doubles. — HNS

Totti discharged

ROME: Italian national team forward Francesco Totti was discharged from a Rome clinic after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury. The 29-year-old Totti fractured his fibula and strained ligaments in his left ankle after being tackled during Sunday’s Serie A match with Empoli. — AP
