Lincoln School in final

KATHMANDU: Lincoln School won the fifth straight match beating Little Angels’ School 56-24 and entered the final of the Inter-High School Basketball Tournament. Narayan Bell scored 20 points for Lincoln, while Nabin Shrestha netted 18 for LAS in home court. In the other match, Gyanodaya outplayed Rato Bangala 58-36 at home court. Bikash Serchan scored 24 for Gyanodaya and Om Shrestha netted 26 for RBS. — HNS

Team Bangkok-bound

KATHMANDU: The five-member Nepali team — led by chef-de-mission Kishor Bahadur Singh — on Friday left for Bangkok to take part in the first Asian Indoor Championship to be held from November 12-19. Athlete Nirmala Bharati will take part in the 3,000m race, while Karishma Karki will swim in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley. NSC treasurer G N Sharma bade farewell to the team also including coaches Nara Bahadur Shahi (athletics) and Shankar Karki (swimming). — HNS

Van Nistelrooy out

NOORDWIJK: Netherlands’ Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been sidelined for the friendly against Italy in Amsterdam on Saturday due to a rib injury. The Manchester United striker had not trained all week with his teammates but underwent a test on the bruised rib on Thursday, which turned out to be still too painful. Other absentees are Mark Van Bommel, Robin van Persie, and Romeo Castelen. — AFP
