Milan hold Chelsea

EAST RUTHERFORD: Manuel Rui Costa fought off two defenders and scored in the 80th minute, rallying AC Milan to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in a friendly match. After a scoreless first half, Chelsea took lead in the 64th through Didier Drogba, who ran about 25 yards through two defenders and beat AC Milan ‘keeper Valerio Fiori. With the draw, AC Milan won the World Series of Football tournament by goal differential against the two MLS teams in the tournament, the Chicago Fire and DC United. — AP

Nehra reprimanded

COLOMBO: Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra has been reprimanded by the ICC for excessive appealing in Saturday’s match against Sri Lanka. ICC Match Referee Mike Proctor found Nehra guilty of breaching the ICC’s code of conduct for players, a statement released by the Sri Lanka cricket board quoted the ICC as saying. Nehra pleaded guilty and received “a serve reprimand,” for his conduct during the match that India lost by three wickets. Nehra bowled 10 overs conceding 34 runs without claiming any wicket. — AP

Arsenal beat FC Porto

AMSTERDAM: Substitute Fredrik Ljungberg scored two second-half goals to give Arsenal a 2-1 victory over FC Porto in the preseason Amsterdam Tournament. The win gave Arsenal nine points, followed by Porto with six. Ajax and Boca Juniors have zero points. Arsenal is playing in the annual friendly tournament for the third time since it was launched in 1999. Argentine striker Lisandro Lopez’s 36th-minute goal gave Porto the lead, but Ljungberg evened the score in the 48th minute. The Sweden midfielder added the winning goal nine minutes later. — AP
