Tribhuvan Army Club, Armed Police in final

Kathmandu, September 21:

Tribhuvan Army Club and Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club entered the final of the Solu-Sagarmatha Cup Volleyball Tournament, which has been organised by Solukhumbu-Kathmandu Sports Club, under the auspices of Solukhumbu District Volleyball Association, here on Wednesday. In the day’s semi-finals, the Armymen — who won all the three league matches — defeated Mahendra Police Club 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, while Armed Police Force — who entered the last four as Group B winners — beat hosts Solu-Kathmandu Sports Youth Club in the straight sets of 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.

The final will be held on Thursday at National Sports Council Covered Hall. Earlier in the league-round matches, Western Region beat Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 25-19, 25-21, 25-15; Armed Police Force defeated Far Western region 26-24, 25-15, 25-21; and Tribhuvan Army Club beat Solu-Kathmandu Youth Sports Club 25-14, 25-20, 25-16.

The tournament carries the highest prize money — Rs 75,000. The winners will be richer by Rs 40,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively and the best player will receive Rs 5,000.
