TAC beat Jawalakhel, enter semis

Kathmandu, November 15

Tribhuvan Army Club outplayed Jawalakhel Youth Club 5-3 in penalty shootout and advanced to the semi-finals of the first Chandragiri Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Naikap grounds today.

The winners of the match was decided through spot kick battle after both the teams failed to score in regular period and additional time.

TAC skipper Hiranya Magar, Rajib Gurung, Erik Bista, Dinesh Karki and Rupesh Chhetri converted their shots from the spot, while only Ram Thapa Magar, Shidiwe and Ashim Thapa were able to score for Jawalakhel. TAC goalkeeper Gandeep Khadka saved Suraj Thakuri’s shot to seal the victory for his side.

TAC goalie Khadka, who replaced Maheshwor Shrestha in the 63rd minute, was named the man-of-the-match and got Rs 3,000.

Earlier, TAC, who fielded four U-19 players, and Jawalakhel, who brought in three foreign recruits, wasted couple of scoring chances.

On Thursday, Nepal Police Club will take on CMG Club Sankata.

A total of seven ‘A’ division clubs and the team of organisers are taking part in the knock out tournament sponsored by Hero motorcycle. The winners and runners-up of the tournament will take home Rs 500,000 and Rs 250,000 respectively, while teams will get Rs 30,000 as match fee.
