Army boxers win five gold medals

Tribhuvan Army Club boxers won five gold medals in the seventh National Games here today.
Nepal APF Club bagged three golds,while Nepal Police Club and Central Region claimed one each. In women’s section, LalitaMaharjan of TAC defeated NPC’s Diwana Sharma in the 48kg final bout, while her teammate BimalaShrestha won the 54kg section gold with a victory over APF’s PramilaPandey. NiruGurung became the third TAC boxer to win gold medal when she defeated Maya Chaudhary of NPC in the 57kg final.
APF’s Mala Rai bagged the 51kg weight category gold beating Gita ThapaMagar of TAC, while SaraswatiRanaMagar of APF defeated TAC’s SonamRokka in the 60kg weight category.
In men’s section, SushilThapa of Central Region won the 49kg weight category gold medal with a victory over Subhash BK of TAC, while PremChaudhary of TAC beat BikramPariyar of APF in the 52kg section final. APF’s PuranRai bagged the 58kg section gold defeating TAC’s BimalRokka, while Dinesh Shrestha of NPC earned the 60kg weight category gold medal after his opponent Dinesh Chand of APF withdrew because of injury. Likewise, Deepak Shrestha of TAC beat BhupendraThapa of NPC in the 64kg final. The remaining eight golds will be decided on Thursday.
Badminton
TAC dominated badminton tournament in Kakarvitta. RatnajitTamang won men’s singles gold with a 21-19, 21-11 victory over fellow TAC shuttlerDipeshDhami. NangshalTamang of TAC beat SichhyaShrestha of APF 17-21, 21-12, 21-10. Tamang and NabinShrestha defeated TAC teammates DipeshDhami and SurojMaharjan 21-19, 16-21, 21-16 in men’s doubles.
Ratnajit and Nangshal beat APF’s SichhyaShrestha and SudeeepSedhai 21-11, 21-10 in mixed doubles final,while APF’s PoojaShrestha and SichhyaShrestha won in women’s doubles gold with a 21-15, 21-8 victory over TAC duo Megha Chand and Anu Maya Rai.
Shooting
Nepal Police Club’s AshmitaRai and ShusheChaudhary of Tribhuvan Army Club claimed gold medals in the 10m Air Rifle events at Baijnathpur Shooting Range on Wednesday. Rai won the women’s event, while TAC’s Chaudhary claimed the men’s event. The fifth National Games gold medallist Rai surpassed Olympian as well as three-time Asian Games participant PhulmayaKyapchhaki in the tie-breaker. Rai accumulated 18 points out 20, while Kyapchhaki collected 17 points after they were tied on 189 points out of 200 in the finals. RushiSaumeThapaMagar of Mid-western earned bronze medals after collecting 164 points. In the men’s event, Chaudhary accumulated 186 points to win the gold medal, while Eastern’sTikramShrestha (183) and Mid-western’s PawanGhimire (164) won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Volleyball
TAC won men’s volleyball gold beating APF 3-0 at the Itahari Stadium in Sunsari. TAC thrashed departmental rivals 25-21, 25-15, 25-16 in the final. The referees awarded NPC the bronze medal winners after Western refused to take part in the competition in protest to the suspension of their three players for manhandling referee BinayRai. Similarly, departmental giants APF recorded a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 win against Central in the women’s final. Western beat NPC 3-2 to win bronze medal.
Taekwondo
Tribhuvan Army Club added three more gold medals in taekwondo to win the team championship with 11 golds at the Itahari Stadium. Ram DuttaBhattarai won gold in the men’s 80kg weight category, while MohamadBais claimed gold in the 68kg category and Mira Kafle became champion in the women’s 73kg. Similarly, NPC’s Nishchal Man Shrestha claimed gold in the 74kg and BirBahadurMahara bagged gold in the 63kg.
