Army Club reign supreme in boxing

Tribhuvan Army Club added six gold medals on the final day to dominate boxing tournament under the seventh National Games here at the Mechi Stadium today.

Out of the 18 events included in the tournament, TAC won 11 gold, six silver and two bronze medals to claim the team championship. TAC had won five gold medals yesterday. Nepal APF Club came second with four gold, five silver and four bronze medals, while Central finished third with two each gold and silver and four bronze medals.

Nepal Police Club bagged six medals including one gold, while Eastern Region (10), Mid-western (five), Far-western (four) and Western (three) Region boxers returned with bronze medals.

On the final day of the tournament, PoonamRawal of TAC defeated APF’s BinitaThapaMagar in the women’s 64kg weight category final, while Army’s ShiluDangol beat SamunaKhatun in the 75kg section final. In another women’s bout, APF’s SangitaSunuwar bagged the 69kg weight category gold with a victory over Anuradha Lama of NPC.

In men’s five events decided today, four gold medals went to the TAC boxers, while Central Region’s ManoharBasnet bagged the other one defeating Army’s Mahendra KC in the 81kg final bout. In other bouts, Bishnu Prasad Ghale beat APF’s Bikash Lama in 69kg weight category, while Dipesh Lama outplayed Central Region’s DiwaslalBhumi in 75kg section. Likewise,  ShyamKhatri earned a walkover from Central Region’s Kabiras Sharma, who got injured in the semi-final bout, in the 91kg weight category, whereas AashishDawadi won the above-91kg weight category gold with a win over Megh Lama of Central Region.

Gymnastics

Nepal APF Club stamped their authority in Gymnastics Championship held under the seventh National Games at the PasangLhamu covered hall in Dhulabari, Jhapa. APF finished first with a total of 10 golds, including three in women’s section.

In men’s floor exercise, RajuRaiand UjjwalTiwari of APF won gold and silver respectively, while Central’s TridevGiri bagged bronze. Rai won his second gold in Pommel Horse finishing ahead of his teammate Ramesh Shrestha, while Far-western’s BhaktaBahadurChaudhary came third. Rai completed his hat-trick of gold medals when he won the Roman Ring finishing ahead of his teammate Shree Krishna Garbuja, while Satya Narayan Manandhar of Central bagged bronze.

Rai won the fourth gold in Parallel Bar, while his APF teammate Bishnu Bata came second and Central’sManandhar was third. Rai claimed his fifth gold in the Allround Championship, finishing ahead of UjjwalTiwari of Central and BhaktaBahadurChaudhary of Far-western Region. In men’s Multi, UjjwalTiwari of Central finished first ahead of APF duo Dinesh Sunar (silver) and Ramesh Shrestha (bronze). APF won both men and women’s team event golds with Central and Far-western finishing second and third respectively.

In women’s section, ResikaShrestha of APF won Vaulting Table gold, while Tara Shiwakoti of Central and PinkiJhang came second and third respectively. APF clean swept the floor exercise team event with Jhang, Shrestha and SunitaNiraula winning top three spots respectively. The departmental athletes also bagged all three medals in Allround with Shrestha, Jhang and Niraula claiming gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
