TAC trio, Sharma enter semis

Kathmandu, April 5

Tribhuvan Army Club trio Megha Chand, Anumaya Rai and Sunaina Mukhiya entered the women’s singles quarter-finals of the 12th Nationwide Krishnamohan Memorial Open badminton Tournament here on Tuesday.

Chand defeated Sita Rai of Sunsari 21-15, 12-19, while Rai beat Nita Lamsal of Morang 21-19, 21-17 and Mukhiya earned a walkover win from Kailali’s Durga Sharma. Samjhana Sharma of Banke joined the trio in the last four with a 21-15, 21-14 victory over Sima Rajbanshi of Morang.

In men’s singles, Ratnajit Tamang and Nabin Shrestha of TAC, Bishnu Katuwal of Nepal Police Club and Indra Mahata of Nepal APF Club earned tickets to the tournament proper after winning their preliminary round matches.

In other matches, TAC’s Dipesh Dhami defeated RK Shrestha of Bara 21-8, 21-6, while APF Club trio of Bikash Shrestha, Joseph Adhikari and Sudip Sedhain registered victories.

Likewise, Chiran Bista and Sunil Joshi of Kanchanpur, Bishal Khadka of Sunsari, Praful Maharjan and Rukesh Maharjan of TAC, Pranis Singh Thakuri and Prince Dahal of NPC, Jeevan Acharya of Khotang earned berths in the tournament proper in the U-17 boys’ category.
