Triton, National advance to final
KATHMANDU: Triton College and National College advanced to the final of the Inter-college New Year Cricket Trophy here at the Tundikhel ground on Sunday.
Sunam Gautam struck an explosive century and Keshav Yadav took a hat-trick as Triton crushed Shankar Dev Campus by 111 runs while National Campus eased to a six wicket win over Everest International College in semi-finals today.
Electing to bat first, Triton scored 190-5 despite losing openers Suvash Khakurel (five) and Sanjay Shrestha (five) cheaply. Shankar Dev were dismissed for just 79 runs in 17 overs.
Sunam took the responsibilty after their openers failed to provide the momentum. Sunam scored a fiery 104 from 64 ball to propel Trition to a huge total.
Man of the match Sunam got good support from Indra Kamal Manandhar and Bijay Gautam in compiling the runs. Indra Kamala made 23-ball 25 and Bijay scored unbeaten 23 off 14 balls. Raman Shrestha took 2-33 for Shankar Dev. Bikal Shahi (1-22) and Santosh KC (1-24) also claimed one wicket each.
Rabindra top scored for Shankar Dev with 30 off 38 balls. Karan Ghimire scored a quick fire 21 off 13 balls before Keshav Yadav struck thrice to reduce them to a miserable position. Keshav bowled Bikal (four), Santosh KC (naught) and Diwas Shrestha (naught) to complete the hat-trick.
In the other semi-final, Everest College were all out for 107 in the last ball of their innings after electing to bat first. Six of the Everest batsmen got starts but failed convert into big score and were restricted for a modest total. Anup Karki top scored with 16 while Ujwal Thapa made 16. Likewise, Balram Gupta (11), Roshan Bam (11),Rajan Khadgi (10) and Rochak Bhatta (10) all chipped in with double figures. Subendu Pandey (3-12) and Bidhan Giri (3-26) bagged three wickets apiece while Sandeep Shrestha (2-15) and Nirmal Simalgaida (2-31) took two wickets each for National Campus.
National Campus had a disastrous run chase when they lost Bidhan Giri (naught) but Rupesh Sharma and Brijesh Thapaliya ensured they cruise home safely. Rupesh made 25 and Brijesh scored 30. By the time Rochak Bhatta (3-24) dismissed dangermen Rupesh, Brijesh and Subendu Pandey (15).
Akash Pariyar (20 not out) and Nirmal Simalgaida completed the formality for the National Campus.
