Tshiring wins Pepsi Open Golf

Kathmandu, September 10

Tashi Tshiring won the title of the Pepsi Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the former top Nepali amateur golfer Tshiring scored six-under 66 with the help of six birdies to accumulate 43 points to claim the nett category title. The six-under 66 is a new course record by an amateur golfers at the par-72 Gokarna course.

The one-handicap amateur, Tshiring carded birdies on the third, fifth, seventh and ninth holes to score 23 points on the front nine, while he scored 20 points on the latter half with the help of birdies on the 10th and 12th holes to cap a bogey-free round. Tshiring also won the most birdies award. Suhrid Ghimire finished second with 40 points in nett section. Ghimire scored 22 points on the front nine and added 18 on the latter half.

Tashi Dong, the former national football team member, won the gross section award with 34 points, while Lt Gen (retd) KNS Thapa bagged the senior category title with 35 points. Rekha Ghimire lifted the women’s section trophy with  26 points and Arnav Shah accumulated 38 points to win the junior section title. Jagdish Adhikari won the closest-to-the-pin award, while Jau Nugent got the longest drive trophy.

A total of 76 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Varun Beverages (Nepal) Pvt Ltd. Unit Manager of Varun Beverages Rohit Kohli, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
