Wellington, March 15:
New Zealand cricketer Daryl Tuffey was fined $740 after being found guilty of misconduct for his involvement in a sex video. A NZ Cricket inquiry, run by Hugh Rennie, was convened after a video tape — reportedly showing Tuffey engaged in a consensual sex act with a woman — was leaked to local media. Rennie said Tuffey had breached his contract with NZC both by his conduct and by failing to prevent the film from being circulated. “He made a serious misjudgment in becoming involved, and a further error in not taking any action to have the recording destroyed,” Rennie said. “It is clear that he has been personally distressed by his error of judgment and by its effect... on the reputation of creicket.” Tuffey said he became aware he was being filmed during the sex act in Christ-church last November. “Initially he did nothing to recover that recording or prevent it from being shown,” said Rennie. Tuffey testified that some time later he located and destroyed the original recording, by which time members of the public had seen it.
