USA move closer to qualification
LALITPUR: Fiji are out of the qualifying race after suffering third consecutive defeat while the USA maintained their winning streak at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division-V matches on Tuesday.
Fiji lost against Singapore by two wickets while the USA defeated Jersey by 66 runs on Tuesday. Electing to bat first at the Pulchowk Engineering grounds, Fiji were bowled out for 194 runs in 48.5 overs with skipper Josefa Rika (32), Sekove Ravoka (30), Tavo Sorovakantini (28) and Iniasi Cakacaka (26) contributed to their total. Pramodh Raja was the pick of the Singapore bowlers with 4-26 while Mulewa Dharmichand, Anish Param and Riaz Hussien claimed two wickets apiece.
Skipper Munish Arora scored an unbeaten 94 runs as Singapore replied with 198-8 and keep their team's qualification hopes alive with the second win. Chetan Suryawanshi was the second best contributer with 19 runs. Man-of-the-match Arora struck 12 fours and a six in his 133-ball knock. Sakaraia Lomani claimed three and Jikoi Kida took two wickets for Fiji.
At the Tribhuvan University Stadium, USA scored 253-6 and restricted Jersey for 187-9 in 50 overs. Aditya Thyagarajan top scored with 82-ball 83 while man-of-the-match Carl Wright made 76. Explosive batsman Rashard Marshall also made unbeaten 42 off 27 balls with five sixes. Jeersy skipper Ryan Driver claimed three wickets while Matthew Hague, Peter Gough and Ben Stevens grabbed one apiece.
In reply, Dean Morisson and Samuel Haye top scored for Jersey with 36 runs each. Andrew Dewhurst also contributed 34 and Driver chipped in 29 as they could only muster 187-9 in 50 overs. Lennox Cush took four wickets while Saurabh Verma bagged three and Kevin Darlington two wickets for the USA.
