Vaishnavi edge out Arunodaya 12-11 in sudden death

Kathmandu, June 12:

Vaishnavi High School, Paropakar High School, Nepal Rastriya High School and Bhaktapur English Boarding School entered the Group H semi-finals of the selection tournament for the Coca Cola Inter-school National Football Tournament here today.

In the first match, Vaishnavi School defeated Arunodaya High School 12-11 in sudden death after a goalless draw in the 70 minutes of regulation period. Both the teams scored 4-4 goals in tie-breaker. The match went to sudden death and all the 11 players from both the teams including goalkeepers also failed to break the deadlock.

In the second match, Paropakar outplayed Zenith Academy 3-0. After a goalless first half, the Nepali brothers of Prakash, Sandeep and Bikash scored three goals in five minutes for Paropakar. Prakash put the team ahead in the 64th, while Sandeep doubled the tally three minutes later and Bikash put the issue beyond doubt in the 69th minute.

Also, Puspa Tulachan Rai struck twice as Nepal Rastriya High School defeated Pawan Prakriti High School 4-1. Subash Kuinkel put Nepal Rastriya ahead in the 15th minute, while Puspa doubled the lead in the 26th minute. Ashesh Rai of Pawan Prakriti reduced the deficit in the 29th minute, but Dipendra Thapa restored the lead in the 66th and Puspa sealed the victory scoring his second goal moments before the final whistle.

In the last match, Bhaktapur overcame Shanti Shikshya Mandir High School 3-0. Suraj Dhakal scored in 50th and 63rd minutes, while Sanjay Rajbahak netted the other goal in the 67th minute.
