Vijaya Motors clinch Scramble Golf tourney
Kathmandu, March 17:
The team of Vijaya Motors led by pro Deepak Thapa won the second Kathmandu Scramble Golf Tournament here at the 67-par Royal Nepal Golf Course today.
Played at stroke play format, the team — also comprising three amateurs Dorji T Sherpa, Col Nara Bahadur Gurung and Maj Man Bahadur Limbu — accumulated 11-under 56 to win the tournament. Thapa earned Rs 25,000 while the amateurs received gift hampers.
The KIA Motors team — including pro Pashupati Sharma and amateurs Rabindra Man Shrestha, Kesan Lama and Lopsang Tashi — who led the field till the 16th hole slipped to second place with 9-under 58. Sharma received Rs 15,000 and the amateurs got gift hampers.
The ISME Pvt Ltd led by pro Ramesh Nagarkoti came third with 8-under 59. Nagarkoti earned Rs 11,000, while the three amateurs — Shrihar SJB Rana, Ojsavi Singh and Nagendra Pampati — of the team received gift hampers. Four teams — Yeti Airlines led by pro Radhe Shyam Thapa, Samsung Mobile led by pro Sabin Sapkota, Laxmi Bank led by Chuda Bahadur Bhandari and Royal Merchant led by Deepak Neupane — finished tied fourth at 6-under 61.
Other teams participating in the tournament were Mt Everest led by pro Mani Rai, Versatile Chartered led by pro Rajan Thapa, Salt Trading led by Sachin Bhattarai, Castrol led by Deepak Acharya, and Air Dynasty led by Ram Thapa.
The team of Royal Merchant — pro Deepak Neupane and amateurs Gautam Sayami, Madhur Sinna and Capt Nara N Thapaliya — won the most eagles award. The team sank two eagles.
RM Shrestha of KIA Motors (Hole No 8) and Phitso Ongdi Lama of Air Dynasty (Hole No 15) were the golfer nearest to the pin. Tashi Ghale of Samsung Mobile (Hole No 1) and Kesang Lama of KIA Motors (Hole No 13) won the longest drive awards. In the Ladies Putting Competition held for non-golfers, Annie Vaidya came first and Vanessa Rai finished second.
RNGC president Madhukar Yakthumba, Nepal Professional Golfers Association president Radhe Shyam Thapa, former RNGC president Vinode SJB Rana and Yeti Airlines president Aang Tsering Sherpa gave away prizes to the winners.
