KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 18

The youth volleyball team is on Monday leaving for Bangladesh to participate in the Bangabandhu Asian U-23 Central Zone International Volleyball Championship slated for December 22-26 in Dhaka.

Dhiroj Kumar Basnet, Ravi KC, Santosh Khatri, Arjun Nepali, Rup Bahadur Gurau, Bishnu Basnet, Safal BK, Santosh Mahata, Manish Manandhar, Hemanta Malla, Bed Prakash Joshi, Samrat Bhandari, Gaurav Pandey and Bhimraj Gurung are the players in Nepali team.

Head coach Jagdish Bhatta, assistant coach Bhrat Yadav and team manager Jitendra Shrestha will accompany the players to Bangladesh. Four teams, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan will compete in the round robin tournament.

Nepali teams will also participate in the Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA) Beach Volleyball International Tournament in Bangladesh. Kopila Upreti and Kamala Pun are in women's team, while Man Bahadur Shrestha and Dil Bahadur Sunar are in men's team. The teams will leave for Bangladesh next week.

Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Maldives will take part in men's tournament, while the teams in women's are yet to be confirmed.

The tournament is slated for December 26-31 in Cox's Bazaar. Former national team skipper Bharat Shah is the team coach, while NVA Member Junu Pun Magar is the team official.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising bade farewell to the teams. Former president of Nepal Volleyball Association Manoranjan Raman Sharma handed over Rs 100,000 to the NVA to support the U-23 team.
