Voting representatives of ANFA election released

LALITPUR: The election committee released the voting representatives of the upcoming All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) elections here today.

Surprisingly, one of the 72 voting members of the ANFA congress does not meet the criteria set by the ANFA by-laws. According to the by-laws any member of the current ANFA executive committee is ineligible to vote in the September 7 elections. However Ganesh Bahadur Chand, an ANFA member, has been enlisted as a voting representative from Kanchchanpur District FA.

The deadline to file the voting members expired today but ANFA President Ganesh Thapa said that the name might have appeared by mistake. “I can’t say how his name appeared in the list but he can not vote,” said Thapa. “Since it is a rare case, we will allow the FA to correct the names,” added Thapa.

ANFA congress constitute of 229 members — 120 from 40 district FAs, 60 from 20 A Division Clubs, 29 from current ANFA executive committee, a total of 12 from players’ coaches, referees and women football association, five from B Division and three from ‘C’ Division Clubs. However, districts FAs, A, B and C Division clubs, All Nepal Football Players Association, Referee Association, Coaches Association and Women Football Association have one voting rights each.

Ganesh Thapa is assured to retaining the presidency for the fourth consecutive term after being elected unopposed on August 8. Eight vice presidents — Bijay Narayan Manandhar, Sunil Kapali, Lalit Krishna Shrestha, Narendra Shrestha, Mahesh Bista, Karma Chhering Sherpa, Kumar Jung Thapa and Kishor Rai — were also elected unopposed the same day. The ANFA elections will now only chose 22 members out of the 36 candidates.
