We are the best: Roy Dias

KATHMANDU: After beating Malaysia in the final to win the ACC Under-19 Cup for the third successive year, Nepal’s coach Roy Luke Dias said that Nepal has proved that they are the best team in the region. “We have proved that we are the best in the region,” said Dias proudly. “I am happy for the cricketers, cricket board and the crowds of Nepal,” said the former Sri Lankan Test player. “Cricket fans her are tremendous and without them the match could have gone the other way,” he said of the capacity crowd of the TU Stadium.

“Personally it’s a great achievement, and at the time when you have so much pressure of winning the cup,” said Dias. “This year has been tremendous for Nepal. We won the Under-15 Asia Cup, we were about to reach the final of the U-17 Asia Cup, we won the U-19 cup for the third time in a row, and the senior team’s success in Fast Track Countries’ Tournament,” he added. “We have proved our capacity in every level, but the sad part is that we are not playing in the Asia Cup,” fumed Dias. Regarding the final match, Dias said that everyone picked in correct time. “I must praise my bowlers Amrit (Bhattarai), Bantu (Bataju), Paras (Khadka). Sharad (Vesawkar) batted brilliantly, and Kanishka (Chaugain) and Yashwant (Subedi) had good start throughout the series,” he added. Asked about opponents, Dias said that the Malaysian batsmen could not bat well.
