WORLD CUP: No-shows spur FIFA warning to media

Gelsenkirchen, June 16:

FIFA has begun the process of sending warning notices to media organisations whose accredited representatives failed to collect a media ticket for which they had been approved and did not cancel via the FIFA Media Channel. FIFA in a press release said on Friday that any media organisation that receives this first warning, and whose media representative then fails to cancel or collect a second match ticket, risks losing the corresponding number of tickets from their next allocation of media tickets. Should there be a third infraction of this type, the media organisation would be denied any further media tickets.

FIFA had to take this extreme step after the match between England and Paraguay saw almost 250 no shows from the journalists. Lot of journalists, who di not get tickets, complained with the FIFA, but they have always come up with the response that match tickets have been allocated in accordance with the criteria (agency, media from nations competing). Since match tickets are distributed at the media centres in accordance with the name of the respective organisation and not the name of the media representative, it is the responsibility of the media organisation to ensure their accredited media cancel any tickets that will not be used by their representatives, FIFA added in the release.
