Wrestlers selected
LALITPUR: Nepal Wrestling Association on Monday picked eight women players for the 12th South Asian Games.
Sumitra Rai (48kg), Ishwori Thapa (53kg) and Sharmila (55kg) won their respective weight categories, while Laxmi Khatri (58kg), Kabita Pun (60kg), Shanti Chaudhary (63kg), Lila Singh (69kg) and Bhanu Thapaliya (75kg) were selected unopposed.
A total of 11 wrestlers took part in the selection, informed selection chief and senior coach Bidhya Sagar Pokharel.
This is the first time women’s nationwide tournament was held in Nepal after the events were included in the regional games slated for February next year in India.
NWA will pick eight players in men’s section, with Satyendra Prasad Yadav earning a berth after no one contested in the 125kg section.
