Wushu players selected for SA Games

Kathmandu, December 21

Nepal Wushu Association picked up 17 players six men and three women players in sanshou and four each in taulo for the 12th South Asian Games, here today.

The players who finished first in their weight categories were selected for the regional games slated for February in India.

Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) dominated the selection tournament as eight players made it to the final squad.

In sanshou, Raj Kumar Rasaili (52kg) of Bhaktapur, Rajesh Chaudhary (56kg) of Kailali, Mangal Prasad Tharu (60kg) of Nepal APF Club, Saroj Pun (65kg) of Banke, Chitra Singh Thakuri (70kg) of TAC and Dhanbir Maharjan (75kg) of Kathmandu finished first in their weight categories.

In women’s category, Jharana Gurung (52kg) of Kaski, Juni Rai (60kg) of Nepal Police Club and Bindu Pun Magar (70kg) of TAC made the cut.

In women’s taulo category, Nima Gharti Magar, Sabita Rai and Osin Rai of TAC and Susmita Tamang of APF earned berths for the regional games, while Yubaraj Thapa of APF, and TAC’s Hari Prasad Gole, Bishow Budha Magar and Bijay Thapa Sinjali were selected in men’s section.

A total of 115 players participated in the three-day selection tournament.
