LALITPUR: Xavier International and Trinity College reached the pre-quarterfinals of the third U-19 White House Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament today.
Xavier defeated Pentagon College 39-19 riding on 15 points from Manish Man Shrestha. Xavier maintained lead in
the first three quarters which helped them to earn a place in last 16. They took a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and scored another 16 in the second to that of five points from Pentagon.
Going into the second half with a strong 30-7 lead, Xavier scored seven and Pentagon netted five in the third quarter. Xavier scored just two while giving away seven points to Pentagon in the last quarter but still won the match comfortably. Pentagon are knocked out of the tournament after the loss.
Trinity, meanwhile, beat Future Breeds 50-31. Trinity took one point lead in the first quarter with 13-12 score and managed to add another 10 when Future only posted six points. With a seven-point lead in the second half, they extended their lead in the third scoring 13 against the 11 of Future Breeds. Trinity were even stronger in the deciding quarter scoring 14 while conceding only two points. Santosh Thapa top scored for Trinity with 19 points.
In another match, Little Angels (LA) overcame hosts White House International College of Khumaltar 35-27 with Sandeep Shrestha contributing 17 points for the winners. LA were ahead in the first quarter with 7-6 lead while White House went neck to neck with 10-10 in the second. The third quarter turned out to be the decider as LA scored eight points to that of two of the hosts. The final quarter saw LA score 10 and White House nine points.
