KATHMANDU: An avalanche has hit the Mt Everest route this afternoon, according to the base camp officials.
The avalanche reportedly struck between Khumbu Icefall and Camp I on Mt Everest, the officials said.
“We are trying to get the details,” liaison officer Gyanendra Shrestha of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation told THT from the base camp, adding that they were trying to monitor the scene by using a remote controlled drone.
“Most of the climbers have already descended to the base camp after summiting the world’s highest peak,” the expedition organisers shared.
Details to follow.
