Road project fails to gather momentum

Nawalparasi, March 21

A road project in Nawalpur and Parasi has failed to gather momentum, thanks to lack of funds.

Commuters have been facing a hard time in Nawalpur’s Tribeni and Parasi’s Sanahi as there has been a delay in the construction of the road.

Section of the road construction had started as part of the multi-year project a decade ago. However, only a part of the road has been blacktopped.

“The road remains closed during the rainy season while in the dry season thick cloud of dust makes traffic movement difficult,” said Sanjiv Yadav of Sanai. “Neither the local bodies nor other offices have paid any attention to expedite the road project. We wonder when the road project will be completed,” he said.

The 32 km road stretches from Tribeni of Tribeni Rural Municipality in eastern Nawalparasi to Sanai of Palhinandan Rural Municipality in western Nawalparasi. While 18 km section of the road has already been blacktopped, the remaining stretch is yet to be blacktopped.

According to Devendra Bhattarai, division office engineer, Rs 12.3 million has been allocated for the road project this fiscal.
