KATHMANDU
Kathmandu's tangled wire problem remains unresolved despite two missed government deadlines.
In mid-June, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) launched a 15-day drive to organise telephone, internet, and electricity cables along six major routes across the city.
A month later, Minister for Communication and Information Technology is Dr Bikram Timilsina, and the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha jointly ordered completion by end-July. That deadline also passed, and the NTA now targets mid-August.
The tangled cables continue to risk electric shocks, fires, and snapped-wire accidents, while the NTA's directive requiring telecom and internet providers to tag their cables remains largely unimplemented.
