11 killed in Boko Haram raid on NE Nigeria village

KANO: Eleven people were killed in a Boko Haram raid on a remote village in northeast Nigeria, residents and a civilian vigilante assisting the military against the Islamists told AFP.

"We lost 11 people and almost half our village was set ablaze," said resident Kyari Sanda from Ngamdu, some 100 kilometres (63 miles) south of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

Danlami Ajaokuta, from the civilian militia force, confirmed the attack, which happened on Friday at about 8:00 pm (1900 GMT) and is the latest in northeast Nigeria in recent weeks.
