Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf opened an international seminar on moderate Islam today, stating that the perpetrators and sufferers of suicide bomb attacks were Muslims.

“The devastating power of plastic explosives, combined with high-technology remotely-controlled activation means, superimposed by the proliferation of suicide bombers, becomes a lethal combination beyond any effective counter,” Musharraf said in a speech to inaugurate the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) seminar in Islamabad. Some 50 scholars, researchers and academics from 40 countries are participating in the 57-nation OIC seminar titled “OIC Challenge and Response — Enlightened Moderation.” Musharraf has been campaigningfor moderate Islam.
