Disband paramilitary forces, LTTE tells govt

Colombo: The Tamil Tigers demanded the government disband paramilitary forces masquerading as a breakaway guerrilla faction, saying the group has launched attacks in violation of a ceasefire and was threatening the future of peace talks. Anton Balasingham, the Tigers’ chief negotiator at the talks reportedly made the comments at his London home on Monday while discussing the future of the peace process with Norwegian envoy Erik Solheim. — AP
