KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 13

A powerful earthquake with estimated magnitude of 7.1 has struck Japan's Fukushima region.

According to Japan Meteorological Agency, epicentre of the quake has been located near the east coast of Honshu in Fukushima Prefecture at a depth of around 60 kilometres.

"The quake, which was also felt in Tokyo where it registered a 4 on the Japanese scale, struck around 11:08 pm," The Japan Times quoted the Meteorological Agency, adding that no tsunami warning was issued.

Those near coastal areas have been advised to move to higher grounds as aftershocks could be expected, stated the Times.

No damage has been reported so far.
